Sitting with you in the kitchen There's no place I'd rather be The smile on your face has been a long time coming There's no thing I'd rather see It's so hard getting along It's so hard writing a song It's so hard, except when it's easy Here you come in that worn out purple shirt Yesterday you were happy sitting in the dirt Now something ain't right and your head is hanging low You're looking around around for your special place to go. It's so hard getting along It's so hard writing a song It's so hard, except when it's easy He ain't home and the sun is sinking low We've been out all day, there's no place left that we've gotta go Our man on the phone said he's not coming home But I'll see you again in the morning It's so hard getting along It's so hard writing a song It's so hard except when it's easy

All the things I never see Everyday surrounding me All the things I never know Even though I’ve been told so Oh, oh, oh, oh, ooooh-oh Oh, oh, oh, oooh, ooh, oh. Everywhere I ever go I shoot for high and end up low The places that I long to be Have a tendency of eluding me Oh, oh, oh, oh, oooh-oh Oh, oh, oh, oooh-ooh-oh Even though I try Just opening my eyes don't answer my questions why Even though I try, it just seems funny All the things I never say When words come out the wrong way The story that I’m trying to tell Is gonna take a million tries before I say it well. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oooh-oh Oh, oh, oh, ooh-oh Oh, oh, oh, ooh-oh Oh, oh, oh, oooh-ooh-oh. Even though I try Just opening my eyes don’t answer my questions why Even though I try, I just seems funny.

Corner Song 04:13
Maybe I could be a farmer planting seeds in the fields of my home I’d walk every row and pray to the gods I know for rain and sunshine Here on this corner I see them come I see them go Faces from so many places Makes me wonder if it’s my time to go Maybe I could roam far from this land I know amongst the water and stone I’d take to the sea with those older than me and tell of the stories they sing I’ll stay where I am singing songs you understand The shade from the trees was made for someone like me

I drink it down, all the way down it’s been too long and I am thirsty I drink it down, bottoms up another round, I won’t leave ‘til I’ve had plenty My skin was drying out, but my heart knew the way out side In a moment and a prayer I get myself there, to the lake, where I go under I drink it down, all the way down it’s been too long and I am thirsty I drink it down, bottoms up another round, I won’t leave ‘til I’ve had plenty I know where I belong it’s the water and the rocks that hold the songs The birds teach how to sing of dawn of love of everything, everything Oh, oh, oh-oooooh Oh, oh Oh, oh, oh-oooooh Oh, oh I drink it down, I drink it down, I drink it down, I drink it down I drink it down, bottoms up another round, I won’t leave til I’ve had plenty

Heaven 04:20
Heaven is a little bit closer Heaven don’t seem so far away Heaven is a little bit closer Since you’ve gone away I know I must be dreaming, but I feel you by my side I don’t care if I’m only dreaming, When I dream I feel all right. Sometimes I think you’re watching When I see a face that looks like you It haunts me every time I notice, Maybe you’re not so far away…

about

Songs of a new life in an old home.

Recorded with Nich Wilbur at The Unknown in Anacortes, WA
Mixed and mastered by Matt Grundy
Cover photo by Heidi's grandpa
Band photos by Thaddeus Hink

The Enthusiasts' debut LP stems from the legacy of the Pacific Northwestern tradition of Love Rock that evolved from the timeline of K Records music from Olympia, Washington and continues to ring out through the Puget Sound in the small island town of Anacortes. Recorded in the church halls of the Unknown by Nich Wilbur, the brother and sister duo of Andrew Velin and Sommer Velin Carter harmonize majestically alongside their full folk-rock-alternative band composed of Mariah Barrett on Keys, Andy Brown on Drums, Rob Carter on Mandolin, Doug Cassidy on bass.
The songs resonate on the topics of home and taking in what surrounds us. Endearing messages that "Life's a Mess, That's the Main thing: It's a Winding Road." Vibrant with feeling, the melodies of the Enthusiasts radiate a joy and vigor that is purely enjoyable to hear in a time that has had fewer bands. Not to compare to bands of the past, but influences could point to groups like 4 Non Blondes, R.E.M., The Band, Jefferson Airplane and perhaps fellow, local family band- The Crabs.
The album leaves you with the dreamy track of "Heaven" and the hope for the good that isn't too far away. As a takeaway, "Too Long In This State" is a highlight jam while "Corner Song", featuring Jade Carter, is thoughtful and sincere with its rhythmic waltz wanderings. Overall, the ten song album is another gem promising to bring more Love-Rock inspired musical arrangements from the Enthusiasts.
